‘THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PODCAST’ – with That Property Mum’
So, if you are reading this and thinking, bloody hell, why would SHE start a podcast, well that is the exact thought process that has stopped me from doing one. I was too afraid of what others would think or say about me, my voice is nasally and monotone, I’m not that confident, I really don’t know enough people … blah blah blah. The list of excuses and stories I told myself went on and on. I started thinking about a podcast about two years ago. I even signed up for a course on how to start one, I got all the tech and creatives and content ready and then stopped. My imposter syndrome was greater than my desire to help and really make a difference in the property management industry. Can anyone relate to this? I seriously had to think about what was really important, what was my WHY with this business. It was actually a ‘planning party’ at the start of the year with another industry coach that made me take serious action, so thank you Hermione. She made us set our quarterly goals and say them out loud in front of others. Launching a podcast was one of mine. So, with only a few months to achieve this goal, I had to shift gears pretty quickly and change my mindset. Who am I NOT to do a podcast, I started to tell myself. Doesn’t the property management industry need new voices, don’t we need a supportive and collaborative environment where we can share our struggles and celebrate our wins?
And here I am now, ready to share, The Property Management Podcast with you. So, let me break down why I decided to start a podcast, especially if you’ve been thinking about launching your own and have been putting it on the backburner for a while. This might just be the encouragement you need.
WHY I STARTED THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PODCAST
1. I’m passionate about helping others
I love building a business, I enjoy property management, but what I’m really passionate about is helping others. I know how hard it can be as a working mum, let alone a working mum in property management and business, it’s a tough job and a thankless one at times as well. If I can help just one working mum, property manager or business owner avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made and help them get to where they need to be a lot quicker, then my job here is done. Mic down…
2. I love listening to Podcasts
I’m an avid podcast listener myself. When I’m cooking, cleaning, walking the dogs, trying to ignore my whinging kids, I’ve got my earbuds in and I’m devouring a podcast episode. I simply love the format, and I think it is only going to get bigger. I think it is great for busy mums like us, who are on the go running kids around, running households or businesses, there’s not a lot of free time to sit and watch Netflix or read books. With a podcast we feel like we can learn something, we feel connected to something bigger than ourselves, and now that all my friends are listening to the same shows, we have some great conversations at our girly nights.
3. It is a great way to connect with others on a bigger scale
We’re all so busy right. As much as I love writing and I’ve been sharing my blog every single week for three years now, which is crazy, who actually has time to read it? If I really want the content I share to get out there and into the hands of the people who need it the most, I have to deliver it to them in the way they want it. It is so much easier to pop an episode of a podcast on in the car on the way to and from work than it is to find 20 minutes in your day to read a blog. Don’t worry I’ll still be sharing blogs though, if you aren’t quite ready for podcasts just yet.
4. I love hearing stories and learning from others
In case you didn’t know I was actually a former television sports journalist! I love hearing and telling a good story. Stories are the best ways to communicate, and if you really want something to resonate with someone, tell them in a story format. I really feel like podcast gives people opportunities to tell their own stories. It is also a great way to learn from others, which I wouldn’t normally get a chance to speak to or listen to.
5. Opportunity to help my business grow
Of course, one of the major reasons I am launching a podcast is to help my business grow. It is a great platform to expose That Property Mum to a larger audience and an organic audience as well, to who I might never normally have access to.
