Without a plan things can go sideways in business very quickly. As we approach the end of the year, it’s a perfect time to reflect on our journey and celebrate achievements and I wanted to share some of the invaluable lessons I gained from a recent full-day planning retreat hosted by the remarkable Claire Wood and Steph Taylor, two powerhouses in the world of online business coaching.

In the whirlwind of managing multiple businesses, the importance of strategic planning has become essential. I recently took the plunge into a day-long planning retreat, eager to absorb insights and strategies to propel my businesses forward. Claire and Steph, with their wealth of experience, shared transformative planning tips, and I can’t wait to pass some of this knowledge to you.

Let’s kick off by delving into the crucial steps of setting up a comprehensive plan for the upcoming year. Grab a pen and paper as we explore major work and life goals, action steps to achieve them, marketing strategies, content planning, yearly overviews, and the often overlooked but critical aspect—budgeting!

Before starting on your planning journey, take a moment to pause and reflect. Acknowledge your achievements from the year gone by. Celebrate what worked well and identify areas for improvement. This self-reflection sets the stage for a more informed and targeted planning process.

Goal setting isn’t just a checkbox exercise; it’s a powerful process that shapes your ideal future and motivates you to turn your vision into reality. I believe in SMART goals—specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Write them down to make them tangible and commit to the steps needed for them to come to life.

When creating your goals, embrace a holistic approach. Integrate family, health and fitness, business, personal development, charity, travel, and any other category that may contribute to your holistic well-being. Realistic goals form the backbone of your planning, with occasional bold, audacious ones to fuel your ambition.

For business owners, property managers, or business development managers, marketing goals are the lifeblood of growth. Understand what’s working, what’s not, and drill down into the strategies that yield the most significant success. Explore your fears and apprehensions, then face them head-on.

Success in online marketing comes to really understanding your ideal clients intimately. Really get clear into their frustrations, problems, and beliefs. Craft content that addresses these pain points and provides solutions. This approach resonates more deeply with your audience and forms the foundation for an online content plan.

Zoom out for a yearly overview. Create a snapshot of school holidays, team holidays, personal holidays, and strategic times for offers or promotions. This visual tool is key for aligning personal and professional commitments. Budgeting, often overlooked, grants you financial empowerment. Track income, record expenses, and set spending limits for a clearer financial roadmap.

I really encourage each one of you to dedicate time to your business planning and I look forward to witnessing your growth and success in 2024! I would love to hear some of your goals, so please ensure you send me a DM over on Instagram: @thatpropertymum
