How to Set Up Your Socials for Holidays

You’ve heard about the power of social media, right? You’d have to be living under a rock not to know how essential it is for your business right now. If you’re not a hundred percent convinced, let me share some of the latest social media statistics with you:

  • Facebook is Australia’s largest social media platform with over 16 million monthly users

  • YouTube is second with 16 million

  • Instagram third with 9 million

  • 59% of the population check social media every day or most days

  • Over a third check social media over 5 times a day

  • 64% of consumers are more likely to trust a brand if it interacts positively on social media

If you are thinking about letting your socials go by the wayside while you are on holidays, think again. This is the one time of the year we are all most active on our social media, scrolling through our news feeds without any other major distractions. So, don’t miss out on this opportunity for your content, more importantly your brand, to be seen by a larger than normal audience. This also doesn’t mean you have to spend all your holiday downtime thinking about and posting your social media. With a bit of thought, planning and the right tech tools you can have your socials all prepped and ready to go while you are enjoying the beach or spending time with family and friends. Let me share my three-step strategy for getting socials set for the holidays.

Step 1 – WHAT CONTENT ARE YOU GOING TO SHARE?

Let’s start with a brainstorming session and write down as many ideas for content as you can think of.

To help with this you might want to break it up into categories like:

Personal content – This might be personal photos of you and your family over the holidays. Holiday snaps, earing and drinking, etc. Be mindful these might be harder to schedule in advance.

Educational content – This might be educating landlords on legislation, market updates or even investing in properties. This could be blogs, videos or links to information already on your website.

Property management content – This might be funny memes or content relating to your policy and procedures.

Fun content – This could be anything really, so get creative, fun memes, TikTok videos, motivational or inspirational quotes, throwbacks to your younger days, you name the possibilities are endless.

Holiday content – Christmas Day and New Years tiles should be no brainers, along with other holiday content regarding unwinding, relaxing or managing travel with kids, etc.

Step 2 – PLANNING WITH A CONTENT CALENDAR

Now that you have all the ideas ready to go, we need to get them into a calendar and plan it out. I recommend you stick with a theme, for example:

Monday – Motivation

Tuesday – Throwbacks

Wednesday – Educational

Thursday – Funnies

Friday – Personal photos/videos

You can even pick a theme for the entire week so that you don’t need to come up with new content every single day. This might look like a week on different legislation, Christmas gift and celebration ideas, or even a year in review wrapping up and highlighting your successes through the year. Again, you can get creative and think about ways to reduce the amount of original content you have to come up with.

The way I plan my content is to repurpose one piece of content. So, for example, I write a blog every single week, that blog is then turned into a tile, a newsletter and a video.

When planning out your content calendar you want to have one core piece of content and then build your social content off that. Let’s say your blog is on the best Christmas gift ideas in 2021. You can of course use a link to the blog as content for one day, another might be a Christmas quote, another might be a funny post with a terrible Christmas gift, you might then do a video wishing everyone a Merry Christmas or a reel with ‘What every Landlord wants for Christmas’.

STEP 3 – CREATIVE & SCHEDULING TOOLS

In this step, we create and schedule the posts, so that you can set and forget. You don’t have to interrupt your margarita drinking with a sudden ‘ahhh I haven’t posted on socials today!’. Let’s start with the creative process first. If you haven’t got Canva, you must get it now! Canva is a game-changer when it comes to creating tiles to post on social media. It is a software program that allows you to create professional-looking posts, in minimal time and cost. You don’t need to outsource a professional agency to create these, they have a host of different templates you can use and all are sized correctly. I recommend setting up some of your own templates or we have created some templates for you, you simply need to change your logo and colours from your brand board.

There are a few scheduling tools that you can use to help plan your social media posts to go up on a certain day. The two I have personally used and can vouch for because of their ease of use is Hootsuite and Later. You simply need to sign up for an account and start scheduling away. You can schedule on most social platforms through this software.

Once you have your social media all set, you can sit back relax and enjoy your holidays. Knowing that you are achieving personal and brand exposure as well as generating potential leads. And that is the type of win, win situation we all could do with.

SOCIAL TRENDS FOR 2022

TREND 1 – BRAND STRATEGY TREND

Social media is slowly slipping away from the glossy mega influencers towards the smaller and more authentic communities. Digital communities have never been richer, more vibrant, and more impactful on our experience of daily life than they are now. And nowhere are these communities being created—and catered to—more than on social media. Over a billion Facebook users regularly engage within groups. Building a community of voracious customers around their product is every brand’s dream. But the most wildly successful brand communities you see online have been built over time by global brands with tons of resources. And although social media gives any business online the opportunity to gain a following, that doesn’t automatically translate into a truly engaged and active community.

TREND 2 – THE CUSTOMER CARE TREND

Consumers, fed up with waiting on hold, have discovered that service delivered via social is immediate, convenient, and effective. In a Nielsen survey commissioned by Facebook, 64% of people said they now prefer to message rather than call a business. The pressure on businesses to adapt to as many digital customer service channels as possible is sky-high. That same Nielsen survey shows us that 60% of consumers say they’re open to receiving personal messages from companies. While some struggle to add and integrate new service channels, the most innovative customer service leaders are finding new opportunities to deliver proactive customer care using social media.

TREND 3 – SOCIAL ADVERTISING TREND

Facebook and Instagram are still considered the most effective platforms overall, for advertising. But, marketers are finding platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Pinterest to be far more effective for reaching business goals than they have in the past. The biggest jumps in perceived effectiveness belong to TikTok, Pinterest, and Snapchat—which all went from single to double digits. TikTok rocketed from 3% last year to 24% this year—a 700% increase. And Snapchat increased from 1% to 13%—a mind-bending increase of 1200%.
